    Photograph of Alphonso Swift (1838-1915). Swift, a resident of Des Moines, Iowa, moved to the young colony of Fairhope, Alabama in 1896. He bought a strip of deeded land on the north side of Magnolia Avenue from Charles Schalkenbach. Swift was not a member of the Fairhope Industrial Association /Fairhope Single Tax Corporation.     Letter written to E. B. Gaston from William R. Pickering of Des Moines, Iowa dated October 31, 1897 asking for a duplicate of his share of stock. He may or may not come to Fairhope. Swift was anxious for him to settle north of him and offered to loan him the money to buy out Mrs. V. Swift will take his stock if he decides not to come to Fairhope. He has just heard about the death of "the world's great reformer and humanitarian Henry George."

    Letter written to E. B. Gaston from from a Mr. J. B. Phinney. He asked if anything had been done about renting the cottages via a Mobile real estate agent. He left keys with Mr. Leech. He offers to sell his property for $350 and give Mr. Bancroft and Mr. Leech a commission. Heard of Clyde's death through Mr. Swift. He was a young person.

    Letter dated 2/23/1910 to E. B. Gaston from Clare C. Mechem of Mobile, Alabama enclosing $2.00 for subscription to the Fairhope Courier newspaper. She wrote to Mr. A. Swift who came to see him. Mr. Swift wouldn't put a price on his home place but said he had 3 acres in the heart of town (Fairhope). She has had many inquiries about how the cold weather is affecting the satsuma orange crop and hopes Gaston can give her some information.
