Photographs and Historic Sites Survey Update Form dated 2014 of 100 Church Street South in Fairhope, Alabama. Built in 1925 as the first public high school building in Fairhope. The high school school was built to provide room for the growing enrollment. Prior to 1925, all public school students were housed in the public school builidng built in 1909-1910 located catty corner on the northeast corner of Church Street and Morphy Avenue. (This building was torn down and replaced by the Fairhope Community Park. Note: Additional photographs of the high school and the 1909-1910 school are available on this Archives site if interested.) The 1925 school building is located in the Downtown Fairhope Historic District. This building is located in the Downtown Fairhope Historic District. Note the information about replacing a 1906 building that housed all grades on the site is incorrect. The 1925 building provided instructional space for high school students, while grades 1-8 remained in the older building. In 1953, a new Fairhope High School building opened on the campus on North Section Street. The 1925 school continued to be used as for grades 1-8, the elementary school, and the building is often referred to by its last functional name "K-1 Center" when it was used for instruction for kindergarten and first grade students.
