Photograph of the Fairhope Courier staff working in the print shop, which was located at 336 Fairhope Avenue in Fairhope, Alabama. Arthur Fairhope Gaston (aka Spider Gaston, A. F. Gaston) works at setting type. The tall young man is Henry Crawford, Jr., the son of Frances Gaston Crawford (aka Frankie Crawford)) - who is standing in front of him - and the late Henry Crawford, Sr. Longtime Courier staff member E. G. "Ned" Doughtery stands in front of Mrs. Crawford. The Fairhope Courier was founded in 1894, with the first edition published in August 1894 in Des Moines, Iowa. It was the official newspaper of the Fairhope Industrial Association/Fairhope Single Tax Corporation.. The editor and publisher was E. B. Gaston, the father of A. F. and Frances Gaston.
