Photograph dated 1929 in Montrose, Alabama of the "Mont Rose" boat belonging to William "Bill" Heur. Henry James Stuart (1858-1946) took this photograph of his neighbor's boat and large 40 bbl water tank. Note: Stuart refers to the boat as the "Mayflower" rather than the "Mont Rose." Bill Heuer was a close neighbor of Stuart's who had moved to the area from Michigan. In the Stuart Diaries available in these online archives, Henry Stuart mentions Bill frequently as stopping by Stuart's Tolstoy Park property to deliver mail, or Stuart visiting Heur with wood or vegetables. This photograph is included in a scrapbook compiled by Stuart's family of pictures he sent to them during the years he lived in the Fairhope-Montrose area (1923-1944). Stuart usually included descriptions on the backs of the photos, as is in this case. His family donated the Stuart Scrapbook to the Fairhope Museum of History, along with three diaries and a small rug. Search these online archives for other photographs, the diaries and other information about Stuart. From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives, Courtesy of the Fairhope Museum of History. |
