Photograph and Historic Sites Survey Update Form dated 2014 of 325 Fairhope Avenue in Fairhope, Alabama. Built by Dyson & Co in 1932 as the new Fairhope Post Office (previous location was on South Section street in the Masonic Lodge Building aka Greeno Building). The building's Italian Renaissance Revival architecture was a different style for Fairhope at the time. This building is located in the Downtown Fairhope Historic District. See 34_71_001-127 for all buildings in this District or search "Downtown Fairhope Historic District." By 1964, a larger post office with more accessible parking was needed for Fairhope; the new post office was once again on South Section Street, this time approximately across the street from Greer's Food Tiger grocery store. After the Post Office moved from 325 Fairhope Avenue in 1964, the Fairhope Courier /Eastern Shore Courier offices and print shop moved into the building from 336 Fairhope Avenue. When the paper moved some years later, the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce located to the building. The building is now a bank. This building is on the National Registry of Historic Places; more information is at catalog.archives.gov/id/77834799. From the Fairhope Public Library Collection and the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives. |
