Photograph dated March 16-20, 1915 of the Peoples Railroad Company car and service cart, stopped on the tracks in downtown Fairhope, Alabama. This is the northwest corner of Fairhope Avenue and Section Street; Crawford's General Merchandise Store is seen in the background. Dorothea DeForest took this picture. She and her parents, Col. Ezra DeForest and Mary Gordon DeForest, visited Fairhope to learn more about the School of Organic Education (Organic School) in 1915. Miss DeForest's scrapbook of the photographs she took are included in an article by Dr. Jeroen Staring titled "Marietta Johnson's School of Organic Edcuation and Evelyn & John Dewey's Schools of Tomrorow Frontispiece Photo." See 38_7_001-016 in these Online Archives to read the article. From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives, courtesy of Jeroen Staring. |
