Photographs c.late-1920s of Capt. J. R. Cross (aka Capt. Jack Cross) sitting with an unidentified man on the front porch of The Fairhope Hotel (northwest corner of Summit Street and Fairhope Avenue in Fairhope, Alabama). Capt. Cross (1851-1932) is the gentleman on the right. In one photo, the men have removed their hats. Cross, a native of England, and his wife came to Fairhope in 1908, farmed for a few years, and then managed The Gables Hotel in downtown Fairhope. In 1925, the built The Fairhope Hotel.
