Photograph titled "Nooning at Batevia" of Marie Howland (1836-1921) near the Topolobampo Bay Colony in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico c.1888-1894. Mrs. Howland would move to Fairhope, Alabama in 1899, where she started the Fairhope Public Library and served as associate editor of the Fairhope Courier. Howland was a writer, activist, reform thinker and one who lived and worked in several cooperative colonies. Much information is available about her in these online archives by searching "Howland."
