Photographs (not dated) of Jerome B. Stapleton and wife Lucy Stapleton (Lucy Marion Brown Stapleton 1838-1925). Jerome Stapleton and his brothers Edgar Stapleton and Edwin Stapleton raised cattle on the land which the Fairhope Industrial Association purchased from Mrs. Sarah Tatum in January 1895 (the initial purchase of property for the new Fairhope Colony). This property, sometimes referred to as "Stapleton's Pasture" was the subject of a lawsuit between the Stapletons and Mrs. Tatum. It was settled in favor of Mrs. Tatum in Chancery Court in Mobile in April 1896. See BSS.906 for more information on this lawsuit. From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives.
