Photograph and Historic Sites Survey Update Form dated 2014 of 32 South Section Street (32 Section Street South) in Fairhope, Alabama. This building is located in the Downtown Fairhope Historic District. See 34_71_001-127 for all buildings in this District or search "Downtown Fairhope Historic District." This two-story building was constructed in 1949 by Mrs. Bessie Klumpp Allegri and husband Mr. V. J. Allegri, Jr., and was referred to as the Allegri Building. Mrs. Allegri operated her Ready To Wear Store there, and three other businesses, a barber shop, a children's clothing store, and another ladies' apparel shop (owned by Mrs. Allegri's sister, Hazel Berga) were in the building. Several businesses occupied this corner building, and in 1979, an already established business, the Page and Palette (bookstore and art supplies) moved to the building. It is now a bookstore and coffee bar. Mrs. Allegri had acquired the lease in 1945 from C. N. Atkins (the supervisor of the Bell Telephone Company). Mr. Atkins had acquired the lease from sisters Dr. Coral Crain and Dr. Festal Crain in 1943. The Crain sisters lived in the house next door to the south (see 34_72_151) and had the lease on this site and owned the house there since 1926 when they acquired it and the house from Ralph Young. Young built the house c. 1920 after the land lease was transferred to him from Arthur R. Rockwell in 1919. Rockwell had acquired the land lease in 1918 from Lyndon Wheeler who seems to have had the initial lease c. 1908.
