Butler talks of his diet of mainly fruits and nuts (he is a Spiritualist), his participation in the Franklin Club, a forum of Progressives and Socialists who meet weekly in Cleveland and his interest in the nature of the members of Gaston's movement (i.e. are they "temperate").

Letter written to E. B. Gaston on November 27, 1894 from S. Butler, Cleveland, Ohio. He encloses $.10 for the Fairhope Courier. He writes that Moses Hull, whose been lecturing, has stated that Gaston is a Spiritualist. Butter is a carpenter and is interested in coming to Fairhope to see how he would like it but his wife is not interested. He asked Gaston if he has a wife if she would write Mrs. Hull and tell her about the propects in Fairhope...
