Description |
Letter written to E. B. Gaston from T. E. Mann of Gladbrook, Iowa dated June 19, 1897. He is giving a character reference of Mr. Chas. Leech who Gaston is considering employing on the Fairhope Courier. Mr. Leech has just visited him from Chicago and he impressed Mann as a well meaning fellow though not of ability or force of character, the most that could be expected of him is the mechanical work of the paper. He hopes that a resourceful and practical single-tax editor can be found to help Gaston. He said that he would like to give his assistance to the Fairhope Courier but unless his brother L. C. will join him in the expense, he cannot furnish a rotary press. He endorses Gastons "free land" idea but does not like his railroad scheme. |
