Dissertation by Jeroen F. Staring dated 2013 titled "Midwives of Progressive Education: The Bureau of Educational Experiments 1916-1919." The paper describes educational reform programs in the United States (mainly New York City) in the early 20th century, specifically the work of Marietta Johnson and Caroline Pratt. ((Marietta Johnson was the co-founder of the School of Organic Education (Organic School) in Fairhope, Alabama, 1907.)) Johnson and Pratt were, as Staring states, leaders of a "women-led network of reformers." They were members of the Bureau of Education Experiments (BEE) and the Progressive Education Association (PEA). Staring, a resident of The Netherlands, also discusses Dutch education reform in relation to these early progressive initiatives. From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives.
