Description
Correspondence of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, 1927-1953, (I, J and K). Most correspondence is of general FSTC business (rents in arrears, inquiries about single tax, tax returns).
In 5.1.80 C. A. Gaston writes about Fairhope's early residents, saying those who came to Fairhope were "advanced thinkers and their various eccentricities made them stand out as distrinct from the common run of citizen." He called early Fairhope a "crank" community.
Four groups have been cataloged separately: 5.1.2-12 (correspondence with Charles H. Ingersoll with interesting commentary by Gaston), 5.1.16-17 (correspondence with Harold Ickes), 5.1.91-94 (large donation to Fairhope Public Library), and 5.1.166-173 (single tax experiment in Pueblo, Colorado).
