Letter dated 6/9/1908 to E. B. Gaston from R. S. McMahon of New Iberia, Louisiana saying that he is sorry that Gaston will not be the first mayor of Fairhope. He sympathizes by saying "A prophet is not always honored in his own country you know, and it is quite certain that the large majority of Tolstoi's countrymen would cheerfully put him out of the way, and equally certain that the greatest Russian in history will untimately be recognized." He concludes by saying "With Greeno in charge of Municipal affairs, and the prestige his being the first mayor gives him, you are more than ever needed. |
