Meeting Minutes of the Fairhope Industrial Association dated June 1, 1896. C. L. Coleman reported that the wharf car had been fixed with side boards for carrying melons, etc. All work on wharf had now been completed. H. C. Schakel reported on the business of the wharf. William Stimpson reported the appointment of G. A. Mershon to appraise the value of the lot condemned by Council for school purpose. S. Vander-Meulen reported as Superintendant of Lands and Highways that no work had been done. Moved and carried that he be authorized to secure help payable in scrip to secure Fairhope Avenue from washing. E. B. Gaston reported on going to Mobile and having the press repaired. H. C. Schakel said that A. H. Mershon had not buried his dead cow causing some complaint. Moved and carried that the Superintendent of Public Health (G. A. Mershon) look into the matter at once. Moved and carried that the lots of S. E. and T. E. Mann be assessed at $5 per acre, and that the 4 lots taken by C. C. Foord be assessed at $6.25 per acre. C. L. Coleman said the stairway to the south park was not safe. Moved and carried that he should fix it. Moved and carried that Wharfinger install ladders from wharf to water for convenience of bathers. S. S. Mann was asked to go to Daphne to see the County Commissioners about a road in rear of Pollay, Mann, Schakel, etc. lots. |
