Letter dated 8/28/1930 to Anne Bellangee Call from A. E. Schalkenbach writing from Chicago, Illinois, where he is tending his sick mother. Both are Trustess of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, and are corresponding about the issue of possibilty transferring the FSTC-owned parklands to the Town of Fairhope. Call has asked Schalkenbach to consult with single tax lawyers in Chicago (a prominent hub of the single tax movement) about whether a constitutional amendment would be required before any such transfer could occur. Schalkenbach has talked to one attorney, a Mr. Hamilton, who "unhesitatingly" said an amendment would be needed. Schalkenbach will consult with others soon. Schalkenbach also comments on the notice to delinquent lessees, saying it "reads to me like an apology for asking" for them to pay. He says it is a "mealy mouthed" letter. From the correspondence of Anne B. Call. |
