Thirteen page booklet published in 1928 titled "A Travel Log: One of a Series of Historic Stories of Trips Through Alabama" by Peter A. Brannon (1882-1967). Brannon travels highways and roads from Montgomery to southeast Alabama and then westward. He ends the travel log in Mobile. He writes about the Fairhope area: "Fairhope, Battles, Point Clear and Magnolia Springs are lodestones to attract one on pleasure bent. They are all but a few miles off the main ways of travel and form Alabama's Reviera (his spelling) on the Eastern shore of Mobile Bay" Peter A. Brannon was a curator, archivist, historian and the third director of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, a position he assumed in 1955. From the Fairhope Public Library Collection and the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives. |
