Letter dated 2/16/1906 to E. B .Gaston from Joseph Fels of Philadephia, Pennsylvania. Fels is writing from London, England. Fels wants Gaston to intercede with some work Fels wants completed with a Fairhope businessman. Fels wants C. E. Littlefield, who owns the Littlefield Artificial Stone Works in Fairhope, to make him a set of duplicate molds of the ones he uses for his blocks. Fels thinks these blocks would assist him with the work he is doing in England. He knows LIttlefield is very busy, so he tells Gaston to employ someone who can draw up the plans for the blocks immediately. In addition, Fels does not want anything else in Fairhope named after him. He says "it is the hardest thing in the world to make you people understand that I hate hero-worship!" He has heard that the library, to which he has contributed, might be called the Howland-Fels Library. He is "sick of this kind of monkey business!" He tells Gaston to stop. |
