Letter January 11, 1912 to Herschel Stuart in Nampa, Idaho from Alice McDonnell in De Lamar, Idaho. Herschel, his brother Edward and their father Henry James Stuart moved from De Lamar to Nampa in summer of 1911. Alice is writing Herschel to thank him for a gift and update him on news from his old hometown. Herschel Stuart is the son of Henry James Stuart, who is the Fairhope connection to this letter. After his sons were grown, the senior Stuart left Nampa for health reasons in 1923 and moved to Montrose, Alabama near Fairhope, where he was known for the Round House (Hermit House) on his property, Tolstoy Park. This letter is courtesy of Sally Ivey, who acquired several letters and a 1911-1914 Stuart diary which are all available on this site under keywords "Henry Stuart." In addition Ms. Ivey's podcasts about Henry Stuart are available on her site www.sallysdiaries.com . From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives, |
