Meeting Minutes dated January 27, 1896 of the Executive Council of the Fairhope Industrial Association. Minutes of the last meeting read and corrected to include motion to appoint a committee to suggest a plan for platting land north of Schalkenback, and approved. C. L. Coleman reported on the wharf projects that he and the Wharfinger had been working on. E. B. Gaston reported on examining statutes in regards to the Fairhope Industrial Association's legal standing and also as to examine steps necessary to transfer the Corporation's legal existence to Alabama. Moved and carried that Secretary be instructed to continue his investigation and call to his assistance such other members as he can secure. Secretary reported on taxes for 1895 and that taxes on all land included the Stapleton claim had been assessed against J. B. Stapleton and that part purchased of Mrs. Tatum had so been assessed against her but had been paid by neither and could not be paid separately. Had failed to ascertain in regard to taxes on Brown land not included in Stapleton Claim. Matter of assessments on lots in South Park was taken from table and motion made and carried that valuation on lots in that portion be reduced to $20.00. Secretary was instructed to post notices of completion of assessments and that protests' must be filed within 30 days. H. C. Schakel reported that he had not yet accomplished anthing on stairway to South Park, and could not find members that had time to work on it. Applications of C. E. Atkinson and L W. Larso presented and laid over one week under usual rule. Secretary called attention of the Council to possible conflict in Section 2, of Article 5 and 3 of Article VIII of Constitution. It was moved and carried that Secretary should forward to outside members ballots bearing only amendments to the Constitution to be voted upon and notifying them that they would also be entitled to vote upon officers if upon the grounds on the day of election. Secretary reported filing of the resignation of C. M. Gaston as Trustee and also read communication from A. H. Mershon regarding the death of his wife. Secretary discussed the terms in years of the Trustees. Bills from C. L. Colemand and H. C. Schakel were allowed. |
