Resolution of what seems to be an appeal to an original law suit of Jerome B. Stapleton vs Sarah I. Tatum in Chancery Court, Mobile, Alabama. Stapleton had sued Tatum for title to certain lands, and the court found in favor of Mrs. Tatum. Stapleton and his brothers Edgar Stapleton and Edwin Stapleton were ordered to pay court costs and were enjoined from further attempts of claim on the land. Note: part of the land in question was the 132 acres of initial property purchased by the Fairhope Single Tax settlers. The land ran north-south from Marshall's Gully (aka Big Mouth Gully, Bayou Cherbon, Davis Gully) to Stack's gully and east approximately one-half mile to the Section line (Section Street). Stapleton, a butcher, raised cattle on the land with the Grand Hotel being one of his customers. The area was known as Stapleton's Pasture. Mrs. Tatum sold a tract of land to Charles E. Schalkenbach (not Single Tax) which changed hands several times between 1894 and 1926 as seen in BSS.901 through BSS.914.
