Fairhope Courier newspapers for 1906. All issues are available. The eight-page paper was published every Friday. Beginning with the 13th volume year which was the August 31, 1906 issue, the size of the paper is larger (approximatley 11x15 inches) and the paper stock is of lesser quality. These historic papers are scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and are keyword searchable using the "find" or "search" function in your browser. Some topics of 1906: Joseph Fels contributed $1000 for a new Library building; the September 27, 1906 hurricane damaged many homes, businesses, farms, the wharf and bayfront; the new steamer Fairhope II bay boat was purchased and put into service to replace the Fairhope I which burned in 1905; much building occured-some by the Fairhope Improvement Company; the FSTC saw several constitutional amendments as well as court suits involving lessees and rents; the dispute between S. S. Mann and George Hoyle over land rights was settled and that 2200 acres of land was given to the FSTC by Joseph Fels; the water works began operation in April with 1.5 miles of mains plus other topics of interest.
