Description |
Meeting MInutes of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation for the year 1926. The Corporation usually met twice per month. Includes routine business of the Colony Council, including efforts to beautify Fairhope Avenue and other areas of the town by planting dogwood trees from the woods and azalea bushes donated by Clement L. Coleman. The Colony purchased 160 acres from the S. S. Mann Corporation with Mr. Maddocks paying the $2500 fee. Street improvements were on the Council's agenda and included work with the Town of Fairhope to open streets, build culverts, maintain streets and gullys and other maintenance work. The FSTC had continued issues with maintaining the Wharf. The appropriation to the Fairhope Public Library was increased by 50% to $75 per month. The Eastern Shore Boulevard proposal, a road from the Cochrane bridgehead at the base of Spanish Fort hill running south (now Scenic Highway 98) was supported. The Council approved a two month leave of absence for Secretary E. B. Gaston to attend the International Single Tax Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark and allocated $100 for his and Mrs. Gaston's trip. William Call was elected president of the FSTC at the annual meeting. The Council worked with the Fairhope Golf Gun and Country Club on issues for the Golf Course.
