Interview (audio only) titled "Native American Indians on the Eastern Shore" dated June 15, 2013. Fairhope Museum of History, Director Donnie Barrett is interviewed by Michael Titford. Barrett, a local historian with archaeological experience, discusses the Native American Indian presence on Mobile Bay's eastern shore from the Paleolithic era into the Creek era. Topics include archaeological findings (e.g. shell middens, pottery, tools, burial mounds), and how the culture developed from hunter-gatherers to settled Mississippian-period agriculturalists. The impact of the arrival of Europeans, trade, disease, conflict (including the Fort Mims massacre in 1813 during the Creek War) is discussed. Note: Donnie Barrett is the founding director of the Fairhope Museum of History and served in that position from 2007 until retiring in 2018. Michael Titford is a docent at the Fairhope Museum of History. The audio is of average quality,and while there is some unevenness in the volume, both men can be easily understood.
