Corresponsdence from Dr. William E. Zeuch, Director of the School of Organic Education (Organic School) in Fairhope, Alabama. In a letter to faculty dated December 10, 1943, he seeks to reevaluate the philosophy of organic education. He feels that the school is in a social vacuum and that it is important to do some real experimental work and better define aims and methods. There is a letter from C. A. Gaston to Carl Bloxham on June 20, 1942 outlining Dr. Zeuch's involvement in the school, his possible communistic ties, and the fact that businessmen were not supporting the school as a result of Bloxham's comments (pp 5-7). On December 15, 1941, there is a document stating the qualifications and appointment of Dr. William E. Zeuch to Director - vacant since death of Marietta Johnson. It also outlines his plan for the school. In 1944, there is a rough draft outlining a plan for An Experimental School of Life-Centered Education. He also wrote a defining speech entitled "What We Want is Not Here". pp 15-19. His goal was to set up the Organic School as an experimental educational center. The final letter is from Zeuch from a V.A. Home in California dated 8/17/1964 along with a poem "This is My Land" written by William Zeuch. |
