Description |
Correspondence of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation, by E. B. Gaston, secretary, from 1930-1936 (letters K-L). Includes general correspondence, mainly requests for information about Fairhope from people who are considering a move to the area, or those requesting information for research or school projects. The material is interesting due to the detail Gaston uses in describing life in Fairhope and some of the history of the Colony. 3.25.13 is a letter from James P. Kohler, an early New York single taxer from the 19th century. 3.25.32-69 is correspondence between Gaston and W. B Leedy about a state tax referendum and includes a booklet "Alabama Tax Payers Association." 3.25.92-121 is correspondence between Gaston and Wayne Like, with Gaston making considerable comments about his personal thoughts regarding issues like slavery (see. 3.25.105-107 within that group of letters). 3.25.134-136 is information about the completion of Highway 31, providing a north/south route through the United States. |
