Description |
Letter dated 6/16/1906 to E. B. Gaston from Thomas P. Craig in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is enclosing money for a Fairhope Courier newspaper subscription for George H. Sinton, and he wants Gaston to use the rest to send a blueprint of colony lands and Fairhope booklets to him. Craig has visited Fairhope and hopes the Colony will have an electric light plant soon. He notes that the Salvation Army has several colonies in Canada and the United States, and posits that following the Fairhope plan might lead to their success. He mentions that Rider Haggard has come from England to study these colonies. He mentions one of the Salvation Army project, the Amity Colony in Colorado, which was of similar size to Fairhope (although primarlily a farming community). The land had to be drained due to alkaline contamination and is in difficulty. |
