Description |
Letter dated 7/12/1897 to E. O. Brown from H. S. McFarlane of Chicago, Illinois (both men are likely members of the Chicago Single Tax Club). This letter is in response to a letter received from J. H. Springer of Indianapolis, Indiana (1.8.3-7) which accuses the promoters of the Fairhope Colony of misrepresenting themselves. They have been put on guard and have resolved to make a thorough investigation by speaking to E. B. Gaston during his visit to Chicago July 2-5. The inquiries were made at the Club headquarters and the committee of five were unanimous in their opinion that until many things of a legal, administrative and economic character were changed they would not be justified in endorsing the Fairhope Colony by extending the aid they had previously contemplated. |
