Description |
Letter dated 9/10/1908 to Louis D. Leyh in Stillwater, Minnesota from Joseph Fels, writing from London, England. Fels is respsonding to a letter from Leyh, and send pamphlets about the Fairhope Single Tax Colony. Fels says if Leyh is interested in the Colony, he should contact E. B. Gaston, but also those who are opposed to the Colony, termed "kickers," namely Alfred Wolf and Mr. Albright. For a neutral opinion about the Colony, he tells Leyh to write James Bellangee (while sometimes siding with the kickers, Fels feels Bellangee offers a neutral opinion). Fels tells Leyh not to mention his name in any way to these individiuals. Fels says he has made many trips to Fairhope and is very 'partial' to it. He and his family spent six weeks there recently. He opines about Gaston as "the most rare exponent of the single tax and that it has been due wholly to his rare ability and unselfish character that he has ever outlived thenumerous internecine troubles they have had more or less of all the time." Fels also comments on Leyh question about the Brotherhood of the Commonwealth, saying he is a member, but does not know much about it He refers Leyh to Joseph Dana Miller, Charles Frederick Adams or Robert Baker for more information. |
