Letter dated 5/6/1897 to E. B. Gaston from S. Howard Leech in Chicago, Illinois. Leech is reporting on progress he and Frank L. Brown are making ot establish a sawmill in Fairhope. The company will be known as Fairhope Manufacturing Company, and they plan to add Mr. Gardner in as a partner. If they can be guaranteed 50 acres, then they plan to also have a cotton gin. At present, they have closed their businesses in Chicago, and have made arrangements for the sawmill and planer to be shipped to Fairhope from Atlanta in about ten days. He mentions one of his brother C. E. Leech, who has been corresponding with Gaston about working on the Courier newspaper. S. Howard Leech vouches for his brother's good character and that he is a hard worker. He ends his letter "Hustlingly yours." |
