Description |
Letter dated 12/6/1909 to Joseph Fels from E. B. Gaston. Gaston is writing about what he knows about the situation of Ira Powell leaving Fairhope. Ira owes Fels money. Ira Powell bought the town livery, mortgaged by the Fairhope Improvement Company (on which Ira's father, R. F, serves). Without authorization from other directors (William Stimpson, Frank Brown and Gaston), R. F. Powell gave Ira special considerations on paying back the mortgage. When the other directors found out and pressed Ira for payment, he left town at 4 a.m. and went to Pennsylvania. The Fairhope Improvement Company is doubtful Powell will make restitution and is trying to sell the livery. |
