Description |
Correspondence of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation dated July 1934 comprised of letters and one telegram concerning the decision by the Home Owner's Loan Corporation to not allow participation by FSTC lessees in the program. The decision was a great disadvantage to the lessees personally, and a blow to the FSTC which fought the decision with the end result being an amendment to the HOLC act allowing Fairhope's participation. There are interesting letters from/to J. Chandler Burton, HOLA Alabama Counsel; J.H. Webb, HOLC Mobile District Counsel, Senator Hugo Black, HOLC Baldwin County Counsel W. C. Beebe. E. B. Gaston and W. G. McConnel, an engineer. Special attention to the letter from Webb to Burton, dated July 5, 1934 is recommneded. Webb (now, an attorney over the Mobile HOLC District) was for many years the attorney (without compensation) for the FSTC, and also represented Mrs. Sarah Tatum in early dealings with the Colony, circa 1890s. He presented interesting background on Fairhope in this letter. From the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Archives.. |
