Letter written to E. B. Gaston on 6/29/1894 from Calvin B. Power, Pa. He writes about his lack of money and at the end of the month he will have $105.00 and for living expenses the last 6 months, he is in debt about $80.00. In these trying times he is getting much work done for "Single Tax". He is very interested in the Committee's report on location. He tried to borrow $1,000.00 but could not. 11,000 cokers marched in Connellsville on the 27th. He hardly thinks enough Southern Negroes will be imported to break the strike. He will walk to Connellsville Tuesday to tell them the enemy is Landlordism and there will be no permanent peace until it is abolished. He has urged the clergy to take up the fight. |
