Letter dated 5/20/1931 to A. E. Schalkenbach from Anne Bellangee Call. Call is a current Fairhope Single Tax Corporation Trustee, and Schalkenbach is a former trustee, and they are corresponding about the constitutionality of the FSTC to transfer parklands to the Town of Fairhope. As a trustee with authority over elections, Call is concerned that an amendment to the constitution is necessary to avoid legal problems. Secretary E. B. Gaston and other Colony members feel otherwise. Call and Schalkenbach have been soliciting legal opinions about the issue. Call says that Gaston has accused her of trying to break up the Colony, and she reports that Alex Melville, who mounted an unsuccessful suit about the FSTC in 1915, has contacted her but that she "could not work with him even though we did chance to agree on one point." From the papers of Anne Bellangee Call. |
