Description |
Correspondence of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation dated March 1934 and April 1934. The first issue is that the lesses of the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation are not authorized to receive loans through the Home Owner's Loan Corporation (also refferred to as the Home Owner's Loan Association). There is significant correspondence between E. B. Gaston, HOLC officials and members of the U. S, House and Senate with regard to this issue both in this record and elsewhere in these online Archives. The issue was of considerable concern to the FSTC when at the time during the height of the Depression, lesses needed the loans to pay taxes, FSTC rents and secure mortgages. It was finally resolved with an amendment allowing lesees to receive loans. Search "Home Owner's Loan Association" and Home Owner's Loan Corporation" for additional correspondence. Additional correspondence not associated with the Homs Owner's Loan Corporation is addressed to FSTC members by Dr. Cornelius Gaston and Mrs. Anne B. Call. Dr. Gaston, son of E. B. Gaston would become FSTC Secretary in 1936 following his father's retirement, and Anne B. Call served as a trustee of the Corporation. They address consitutional issues.
