Description |
Meeting Minutes dated 12/16/1895 of the Executive Council of the Fairhope Industrial Association. The matter of hiring a wharfinger was discussed, and the detailed job description was presented. The job includes everything from keeping reports, handling freight, keeping logs floating in the Bay away from the wharf, maintaining the road to the wharf, meeting boats, and many other duties. The secretary was isntructed to post the bids for the job. H. C. Schakel was appointed temporary Wharfinger. Mr. Coleman reported on the well and pump. The matter of appraising Clement Coleman's land was discussed. George Pollay noted that non-resident members have not received notice about the 12/30 special election. A petition was presented to reinstate E. B. Gaston as editor of the Association's newspaper, The Fairhope Courier. Bills approved for payment. Mr. Bostedo of Chicago, Illinois, has proposed a way for the FIA to acquire more land. He and his business associate, Mr. Nusbaum, will buy 320 of land adjacent to the Colony lands, and hold until such time as the Colony has funds to pay for the land. They will charge 6% interest. A copy of Mr. Bostedo's letter is included in the minutes. The secretary was instructed to proceed with this proposition to acquire these lands, and the Council thanked the generosity of the two gentlemen. The Council moved for auditing all reports from officers who handle Association funds. |
